Finding the Right Gift

It can be downright daunting to pick the right gift, especially for the person who has everything. It can also be really time consuming. But it's worth it. It's about being generous.

The right gift is an expression of the heart.

I stumbled upon a cool approach in an unlikely place. According to Lifehack, the key to selecting the perfect gift is to reimagine the gift. Instead of thinking of the act of gift-giving as the exchange of physical objects, think of the gift as communication.

They go on to say, "When you give a gift to someone, what you're actually doing is speaking to them." They suggest that rather than ask what they want, what they need and what you can buy, ask yourself, "What do I want to say to them and what can I give them that will communicate this?”

Take my sister. It can be tough finding a good -- yet alone perfect -- gift for her. After years of misses, I had an aha moment. Adina likes things that are handmade. More specifically, she likes things made by people she's met. So this year I gave her a vase made by my talented friend, Siggy. And guess what? She loved it! It is beautiful. And it was thoughtful, if I may say so myself.

As you engage in gift-giving this holiday season, be super generous! It's not how much money you spend or how shiny the gift is, because generosity comes from the heart.

Family Love Letters was created to give people the gift of telling their and their family's stories -- to give them the opportunity to be heard and to have their words memorialized and revisited. What better way to express the generosity of the heart this holiday season than with a Family Love Letters keepsake?
