Childhood Picture

Whether it's at the dinner table or over the phone, one question is all you need. This week’s prompt to help you build connection: What stands out about your childhood?

Now, sit back and really listen.

Here's how my client, David, responded to this question:

"I consider myself to have been quite fortunate to grow up where and when I did. The 50’s were an innocent time and I found my world to be an innocent place. Some might disagree with that, but that's how I see it. I was kind of like the Beaver in “Leave It to Beaver” in many ways. I guess I felt safe, secure and loved. Aside from that, what else is there really?"

Because you were listening, you may have a follow up question like:

  • Why would people disagree with description? The trick is not to assume you know the answer.

  • In what ways were you like Beaver?

Ask one question or ask five -- either way you're building connection. So go on....ask a family member: What stands out about your childhood?

If you're wanting to preserve your family member's responses, reach out and we'll chat about different ways to do that. Happy connecting!
