Meaningful Minimalism

Organizers rock.

My mother would tell you that I'm a purger. It's true. If I haven't worn something in a while, I give it a new home.

Today's organizers go further.

Shira Gill is a home organizing expert (who did an incredible job with my kitchen) and author of the book Minimalista. Experience has shown her that there are lots of places where some pruning will enhance our lives.

Take two of Shira's recent blog posts: "The Surprising Power of Lowering the Bar" and "How to Simplify the Holidays for a More Meaningful Season." Excess RSVPs, self-imposed expectations, and even chips (again, in excess), etc. all get in the way of seeing and creating meaning.

I may have a sparse closet, but I do like buying things and there are plenty of other areas in my life where I could create space and meaning. What I love about Shira's advice is her reminder that we are in the driver's seat.

We can choose quality over quantity. I'm a fan.

If you're thinking of giving a meaningful, experiential gift that will not just sit in a drawer, unused, please reach out. I'd love to hear from you.
